GHRG-ST attended the Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT) National Conference in Belfast 22nd – 24th March 2019. ASiT are the professional body and educational charity that support and represent surgical trainee across all specialties in the UK.
The team presented 2 posters and 1 oral presentation. The oral presentation titled Gas Insufflation Less Laparoscopic Surgery (GILLS) for minimally invasive surgery in low-resource settings: Methods for evaluating surgical field of view (FOV) and abdominal wall lift (AWL) force – A Cadaveric Study Model won two prizes at the conference the ASiT Global Surgery Prize and the prestigious ASiT/Swann Morton Medal.
The abstract was commended for its interdisciplinary team working, innovative methods and high potential impact to improve trial design and results of GILLS in the future.
Dr Helen Please’s poster won the GlobalSurg Prize at the conference, her poster was entitled Validation of novel wound imaging software to aid the diagnosis of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) of the skin in low and middle income countries (LMICs).
